Here are a few photos documenting Hurricane Arthur in Emerald Isle, NC over the weekend. The weather started to get bad late Thursday evening and by early Friday morning most of the weather was gone. I spent the morning and mid afternoon at The Cape Lookout National Seashore. It was a beautiful day! Luckily we experienced minimal damage from Arthur and got to celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks.
I love all aspects of photography honestly. I love doing portraits, weddings, surfing, landscapes & empty wave photos. I feel like doing all of these helps me in each category. My passion though is shooting waves. It’s crazy how each wave is different. For example, this wave photographed here on this particular morning looks nothing like all the others I took the same morning. From the colors to the shape they’re all different. That’s why I love them so much. It never gets boring no matter how many waves you shoot. One thing people don’t realize is I’m taking these photos early morning before the sun comes up and at later in the evening when it goes down. There’s always the potential of running into a shark. It’s just part of the territory. Some mornings when I’m super sketched out I have to talk myself through it. You woke up to get the shot now go get it! That’s what I have to remind myself. But I wouldn’t change it for the world because passion overcomes fear any day.
I just got back from a 2 week long vacation in Hawaii. I basically stayed on a farm just outside of the North Shore. I took a little trip over to Maui for about 4 days to see a friend. It was a great trip and we scored some amazing waves. Here is one from Waimea Bay from one of the biggest days of swell.
This year I decided to create a calendar with some of my favorite photographs. It includes the Shackleford Ponies, Bogue Inlet Pier, baby seat turtles & wave art. It really is one of my favorite projects so far. It also includes photos that I haven’t printed yet. The calendars are only $20 and for each calendar I sell, I’m going to donate $1 to The American Cancer society in honor of my Aunt Susan Hunt Bailey. You can purchase the calendars by clicking on the link below. Thanks for your support!
Finally we had some nice waves with some decent weather. It’s very rare that we have pumping surf with nice weather. This day was one for the books. My buddy Davo & I got to split this speak for a few hours without anyone around. A beautiful fall day to remember in North Carolina
